Flipping through John Frawly’s book, I see in chapter 9 that you can ask if you will make a living as an astrologer. I decided to cast a chart for that. WELL. I am not happy with the results lol.
Frawley says you’re supposed to look at the 9th house for the state of your astrological knowledge first. My 9th house is ruled by Jupiter, and Jupiter is in detriment, and retrograding, in the 11th house of hopes and wishes. That makes sense, I am still learning. Gemini is a mutable sign which means my knowledge comes and goes. okay… But I see that Jupiter is applying to a trine with L1, the sun, in the 4th house- nice.
Then to find the gain from your knowledge, look at the ruler of the 10th house. L10 is Mars in Cancer in the 12th house. Looks like I’ll lose money as an astrologer. Whelp. Also, Chiron is on the MC. WTF.
So I am obviously a beginner horary astrologer; however, there is no way the gain I’m making from astrology is in the 12th house. That means I’m basically paying my clients. Which then got me thinking- why are we saying astrology is ruled by the 9th house? I know it used to be, but it sure the hell isn’t anymore. Whenever I hear an astrologer say astrology is ruled by the 9th house, I’m like, “Do you know what university is? Have you ever been inside one? Looked at a course list? Met a professor?” To me, astrology is ruled by the 8th house because I use it to dig beneath the surface to the unconscious. We all practice is like a magic art, anyway, which is an 8th house matter. And it just so happens that I like those planets better:
The ruler of the 8th is Uranus and Saturn. Saturn is in the 8th house in Pisces. The lord of the next house, which is the financial gain from the 8th house, is jupiter, which, again, is in the 11th house of gain, trining my L1 and L2 in the 4th house. I like that much better!
I’m kind of being tongue-in-cheek because what do I know about horary, but I still maintain that astrology is ruled by Pluto, at least the kind of deep-diving astrology I practice. An astrology practice built on prediction would be more ruled by Mercury.
