Indicators for Working for Government

Saturn rules government, and I come from a family that has done quite a bit of civil service. My siblings even married people who also ended up in government. My younger brother, who maybe has the most interesting civil servant career out of all of us, came to visit last night from Ottawa, and he was telling me an impressive story about his work, and I remembered that I had once written down everyone’s indicators in their chart for working for government.

I know these indicators are very important in Indian astrology, as the majority of Indian parents– like the rest of the world , but maybe a bit moreso — want their children to grow up to become doctors, lawyers or engineers, or at least to get a stable job in the government, as Indian government jobs are quite prestigious.

If you want a job in government, here are some things to look for:

  • Saturn/Capricorn and the 10th house ruler are important.
  • Also Mercury/Virgo and the 6th house if you’re doing bureaucratic type work.
  • The sun is “the king” and can indicate working for or around the executive branch.

These are the placements of my family members (I have anonymized them)

– I have Saturn in the 10th in Virgo (I have worked for three branches of the federal government, and I have a degree in political science)

– Person 2 has their 10th house ruled by Saturn, and it’s in the 6th house (employment). Works for an assistant deputy minister.

– Person 3 has Mars exalted in Capricorn in the 10th house, and it’s sextiling Saturn. Lifelong civil servant.

– Person 4 has Saturn in their 6th house, very close to the DC (dealing with people), in Sagittarius.  This person dealt with diplomats, and Sagittarius rules foreign affairs.  They have a degree in political science.

– Person 5 tried to get into government earlier in life but wasn’t successful. Now they’re the director of a nation-wide organization that has a certain government branch as one of its stakeholders.  They have Saturn as lord of the sixth house, conjunct the 10th house lord (although it’s an out of sign conjunction, which…. I wonder if that affected their ability to get into government in their younger days?).

– Person 6 is a manager in a government branch of law enforcement.  They have Saturn on the AC trining the 10th house lord, and also squaring mars exactly on the MC in the 10th.

– Person 7 works in government finance – Saturn rules their 2nd house (banking), and Saturn is in their 2nd house.  Their 10th house lord is in the 11th house of incoming gains. They have a degree in international affairs.

Saturn rules a lot of things, not just government, so this doesn’t mean that if you have one of these placements, you’re destined to work in government, it just means that if you have the possibility in your chart, and your family nurtures you in that direction, you may very well end up working for the feds.
